Fingerless Mittens or Hand Warmers

I posted about some mittens I had made on my other blog mentioning that I didn't know if I had the pattern anymore, I was sent this link click here. I decided to make them with smaller size needles since I have such small hands and I didn't check the finished size. They appeared to be too small so I had to try them on while still on the needles.

They fit! So I finished them, I wore them for a few days and decided I didn't like the way there was just a hole for the thumb and one of the edges was curling, so I picked up the stitches and knitted thumbs. Then I added the change to the pattern.

Details: I used Caron Simply Soft Worsted Weight 4 ply yarn. I used US Size #6 and #7 double pointed needles (dpn)
My Changes:
Row 16a: Knit
Row 17: K15, slip next 12 sts to st holder (for thumb, using 2 is best) K15 ~ 30 sts
Change to #6 dpn, K 1 rnd.
Top cuff: as in original directions
Thumb: Using #6 dpn, slide sts from holders to needles. Work in K2 P1 ribbing for 4 rnds. BO and weave ends in.

For those of you

who may be wondering why I haven't been posting here, it is not because I have not been doing anything. I just haven't finished anything. Now that baseball season is over I have no excuse for not working on my crafts, just laziness I guess.

My next thing to post here should be a shoulder bag that is currently half finished and sitting next to my sewing machine. After I paid $90 to get it fixed I really should be using it.

Mini-Challenge #2

Properly practiced, knitting soothes the troubled spirit, and it doesn’t hurt the untroubled spirit, either. ~Elizabeth Zimmerman

Now that the holiday season is over, it’s time for new projects! Help celebrate Dewey’s love of books AND of knitting! This is a mini-challenge for those of us that are honoring her memory by reading the books she talked about on her blog, and who also share her love of knitting! How about dedicating at least one of your 2009 knitting (or other handwork!) projects to Dewey’s memory? Perhaps you would like to knit or crochet some things for a local charity? Or if you’ve never learned to knit, maybe it’s time to learn! Click on the picture to sign up for this challenge.

Another old project

I found some yarn while I was cleaning, so I started knitting over the weekend. Yes I know, I have other knitting projects going, I am tired of them all.

I am making the pattern up because I don't remember which afghan pattern I was using. So I started seed stitch, cable, ripple - solely because I like cables and ripples. I have changed it now, now I am doing seed stitch, big cable, little cables all across to big cable, seed stitch. I am doing a double cable or braided cable, I don't know the correct term. These pictures don't quite show it but you can at least see the color.

Going to the city in style

I just made this. Em and I are going to the city tomorrow and I wanted something sparkly for my ankle. I really didn't think I would get the beads in time, yet I did. So I put this together, and it is not one of my finest, I can see all my mistakes. Next one will be better.

Roadrunner

This is one of the first necklaces I made, I didn't post it earlier because my face is in the picture and I didn't like how I looked, then I learned to crop, in fact, I was cropping all the other pictures in this blog to show off the jewelry better when I found this and decided to add it. I made the beads with some bead stuff, its a polymer and you bake it, the road runner is from a necklace D got for me in Arizona, the chain it was on turned my neck funny colors. You could say this is the necklace that started it all, and I still have it.

S and T

These are the newest ones I have made. I made them for my nieces, whom I am going to be seeing very shortly. The pink one is for S and the blue one for T. At first I wasn't very happy with the blue one, but looking at it in this picture, I think it is very nice looking. I also like the way the colors in both necklaces play off each other.
